More Hope for Amniotic Fluid Embolism Survivors and Their Families

I was recently contacted by a woman that survived Amniotic Fluid Embolism a week after Jenni passed away from one. It is extremely rare to survive and since her recovery, she has determined to do all she can to help others in her situation as well as the situation that the Pemberton family faced. She is working feverishly to begin a charitable foundation that helps raise awareness, raises funds for research and also provides support to the widowers and their children after they lose a woman to Amniotic Fluid Embolism.

Everything for the foundation is still in the beginning stages, but is progressing. I will post more information as soon as there is some. I think it is wonderful that there can be a network of support for families as well as doctors and researchers trying to figure out why this happens and if there is any form of earlier detection.

I am anxious to hear more about her foundation!

I survived an AFE two years and ten days ago... and I can tell you not a day passes when I don't think of it and feel the most awful combination of fortune and guilt.

I am so very, deeply sorry for your loss.

My doctor recently died from this. Her obituary reads;

After giving birth to Aalia Sabine Melanie Naqvi, Dr. Melanie Kathryn S. Vergara passed away last Saturday, April 18, 2009, of an amniotic fluid embolism. She was 34 years old.Dr. Vergara came to Florence in September 2004 to practice at PeaceHealth. The following year, in November 2005, her fiance, Dr. Khurram Naqvi, also an internist, joined PeaceHealth. They were married in December 2005, and made their home in Florence. Born on October 15, 1974, Melanie was the second child of Gualberto Vergara (now deceased) and Lillian Vergara from Manila, Philippines. Her siblings are Gilbert Francis Vergara who works and resides in Toronto, Canada, and Mary Ann Vergara, who is based in Singapore. Melanie graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine in March 2000, and completed the Michigan State University Internal Medicine residency program in Grand Rapids, Mich., where she and Khurram Naqvi had met and fallen in love. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Her remains will be cremated and brought back to the Philippines to be interred in a crypt with her father’s ashes. The family of Dr. Melanie Vergara sincerely thanks the Florence community for the overwhelming support and caring sympathy they have received in their moment of grief. Donations made to Peace Harbor Hospital Foundation or the CARE charity in her honor will be appreciated. These may be left with Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home.

I am very sorry for your loss as I know what you are going thru,I'm an afe survivor going on 2 years.

That woman that you spoke about is a friend of mine her name is Miranda Klassen from Claifornia and she is still trying to get everything for the foundation setup to go as she still struggles with effects from her afe form 1 year ago.
That's the bad thing about having this very rare issues is the medical problems that come after the fact, Which I still have many.

May god bless you and the family and my we someday find a cure for this deadly condition!!!
